House in Bellaterra awarded in 2BAV

2nd Biennale of Architecture of Vallès

First prize for the House in Bellaterra

The 2nd Biennale of Architecture of Vallès (4BAV) has awarded the architects Xavier Vancells, Franc Fernandez and Carles Puig with the first prize for the House in Bellaterra. The award forms part of the prizes given by the Vallès branch of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya to projects built and completed in the Vallès districts, in this case from 2001 to 2002.

The project deals with the characteristics of the terrain and the setting’s natural surroundings to enjoy superb views. A neutral space 25 m long x 8m wide x 5.5 m high which is linked to the exterior by means of “exchanger spaces”.

The “Infrastructural exchanger”, a glassed volume, accessible by car, acts as an exchange between the domestic space and the road network; a motorway barrier ends the infrastructural sequence in the interior of the house. And the “Landscape exchangers”, two volume clad with glass and wood connect the domestic space with the landscape.
