ATHC grandstand awarded in 4BAV

4th Vallès Architecture Biennale

First prize for the Josep Marques Hockey Stadium for the Atlétic Terrassa Hockey Club

The 4th Biennale of Architecture of Vallès (4BAV) has awarded the architects Xavier Vancells and Jaume Armengol with the first prize for the renovation of the “Josep Marquès Stadium for the Atlétic Terrassa Hockey Club”.

The award forms part of the prizes given by the Vallès branch of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya to projects built and completed in the Vallès districts, in this case from 2005 to 2006.

This work was preceded by the refurbishment and enlargement of the pitch and stands, as well as the replacement of the directors’ box. The jury singled out the project’s capacity to “generate a major volumetric and spatial transformation through the application of modern construction techniques and innovative materials, with the minimal use of the possible resources, and the preservation of a high-quality relationship with the pre-existing architecture”.

Vancells also received the “Caixa Sabadell Social Work” prize for the 14 public-housing homes in Terrassa, completed in conjunction with the architects Franc Fernández and Carles Puig.
